Infinite Boundary Element Method for Elastic Problem in Arbitrary Shaped Foundation

Abstract
In problems of interaction between structures and foundations arbitrary shaped foundations are often encountered. Based on the theory of boundary element method the boundary integral equation for solving elastic problems in arbitrary shaped foundation is developed by using Kelvin fundamental solution. Two infinite boundary elements are introducted, their shape functions about coordinate, displacement or fraction and their suitable conditions are given. Examples showed that the method presented is feasible, effective, and can save lots of boundary elements with high accuracy.
