Abstract
The lateral soil movements due to shallow tunneling can generate obviously additional internal forces and deformation in the pile foundation of the adjacent buildings, and it may lead to damage of adjacent pile foundation. Logananthan’s solution is used to estimate the lateral displacement of free-field soils induced by tunneling, then based on the principle of the minimum potential energy and the Winkler’s foundation model, variational control equations with the consideration of layered soils are established to solve this problem. The influence of shallow tunneling on the adjacent pile foundation is investigated through parametric analysis of the pile lateral bearing capacity. The analysis shows that the depth of tunnel and the ground loss have an important impact on the safety of the adjacent pile foundation.
