Design and application of synchronous construction of two neighboring deep excavations

Abstract
Shanghai Bund International Financial Center Project involves the excavation of two neighboring deep excavations. The safety and deformation control are the key issue that should be carefully considered in the synchronous construction of the two excavations. Some technical measures are adopted to reduce the interaction of the construction of the two deep excavations. The monitored data show that deformation of diaphragm walls, soils and the adjacent facilities is under control. The successful construction of the project can be used as a reference for similar deep excavations in soft soils.
