Abstract
Deformation characteristics of granular soils at high stress levels have to be taken into consideration in many geotechnical engineering problems. The characteristics of granular soils in compression tests are analyzed and discussed based on the experimental data from the literatures. A compression model with 4 parameters is proposed for description of the compression behaviours of granular soils in a wide range of stress, including in the very high stress regime with particle crushing effect. The model performance is demonstrated by fitting the experimental data with the relevant values for the parameters. Determination of the model parameters is also discussed.
