Abstract
This study is aimed at developing a simplified model for evaluating the damage risk of buildings adjacent to a braced excavation. The present study incorporates the KJHH simplified model with the random field theory through Monte-Carlo simulation to be able to consider the uncertainty of geotechnical materials. Compared with the conventional methods, the developed simplified model can be more rational to conduct the analysis of damage risk. An actual excavation case history located in Taipei City is used to verify the developed simplified model. The angular distortion of buildings is adopted as a damage criteria for evaluating the damage of adjacent buildings. The analysis results revel that the developed simplified model is capable of assessing the excavation-induced damage potential of adjacent buildings.
