Impact of structural change of soils on stability in slope excavation

  • Based on the structural studies and a large number of tests, a reasonable evaluation on structural change rules of soils is given. The structural parameters considering the combined effects of shear stress and ball stress of soils as well as an applicable expression are proposed. The relations between the structural parameters and the strength parameters are analyzed. In the process of slope excavation, the structural change of soils will affect their strength parameters. The structural change should consider the safety of slope excavation. Compared with the traditional methods without considering structural soil slope, the results show that the structural change of soils in excavation has great impact on their stability, and the safety factor of the slope after excavation considering structural change is less than that without considering the structural change.
