The state of the art of SPH method applied in geotechnical engineering

  • SPH(smoothed particle hydrodynamics) method,a pure Lagrangian,meshless hydrodynamics method,has been widely applied in numerical simulations in many engineering fields.Since SPH method was a newly emerged method for the applications in the geotechnical engineering fields,the basic concept was firstly introduced concerning the researches in geotechnical engineering.Then the emphases were put on the numerical simulations in the fields relative to geotechnical engineering with SPH method.Moreover,as far as the researches on seismic liquefaction were concerned,it was proposed that the deformation characteristics in the pre-and post-liquefaction process should be generally analyzed in the frame of SPH method,and the mechanism of structure failures in liquefaction should be considered with coupled SPH-FEM methods which were verified in explosion and impact science.
