Abstract
A simplified computation method of 1D consolidation for partially saturated soil was developed. At the first stage, water, air and soil skeleton together supported the load, and the soil was compressed immediately. The water pressure, the air pressure, the skeleton stress, and the compression of soil were solved on the basis of the effective stress principle, the compression equation of soil skeleton, the compression equation of air,and the soil water characteristics curve. At the latter consolidation stage,it was assumed that the water flow only depended on water pressure and was not influenced by the air. Then the independent continuity equation of water was set up to solve variation of water pressure with time.Besides, the water and air were regarded as mixed fluid, and the continuity equation of mixed fluid was set up.The variation of pore fluid pressure with time was solved. Then, the suction, the air pressure, and soil compression could be calculated. For 1D problems, the difference method was used to solve these equations.
