Field test on LSC piles to improve soft clay ground under the expressway

  • To avoid the secondary excavation in construction and to solve the problem of the vehicles jumping at bridge approaches, the low strength concrete (LSC) pile is firstly used to improve deep soft clay ground under the expressway in China. In this paper, the field test results including the stresses, settlements, and movements are presented. The performance and feasibility of the LSC pile composite foundation under the embankment are discussed in detail.
