Genetic algorithm used in determining the global minimum factor of safety of slopes

This paper uses the genetic algorithm approach and the upperbound method to determine the minimum factor of safety of slopes. Some examples are presented to demonstrate that the genetic algorithm approach is very helpful to search for the global minimum factor of safety. It’s more efficient to combine the genetic algorithm approach with the traditional optimization techniques.
