Calculation and analysis of earth pressure under limited displacement considering influences of internal friction angle

Abstract
Taking the retaining wall in cohesive and cohesionless backfills as the research object, based on the existing results, a formula for calculating the earth pressure under the limited displacement considering the influences of internal friction angle is established, and the effects of the internal friction angle on the earth pressure distribution on the retaining wall are studied.The results show that the earth pressure distribution under the limited displacement is always nonlinear considering the influences of internal friction angle when the retaining wall produces translation displacement(T mode), rotation displacement around the wall base(RB mode), and translation and rotation displacements around the wall base(RBT mode).The earth pressure increases with the increase of the internal friction angle under the limited displacement when the retaining wall moves to the backfill with three displacement modes.By comparing the obtained earth pressure under limited displacement with that in the previous theoretical researches, it is found that the distribution law of earth pressure with the depth of the retaining wall is basically consistent, which verifies the correctness of the research results.
