Calculation of deformation and internal force of multi-pivot retaining structure considering influence of earth berm

Abstract
Setting earth berm for retaining structures can effectively reduce their internal force and deformation, and it is flexible. This method has been widely used in engineering. In order to analyze the effect of earth berm on multi-pivot retaining structures, firstly, based on the tri-parameter foundation model, according to different stress patterns of the vertical retaining structures, a computational analysis model considering influence of earth berm and the governing equations are proposed. Moreover, combining the pile discrete method with the matrix transfer method, the matrix expressions for the internal force and deformation of retaining structures are derived, and the semi-analytical solution method is obtained. Finally, by calculating an excavation project and analyzing the influences of the width and height of the earth berm, the rationality of the proposed method is verified, and it can provide reference for the design and construction of retaining structures.
