Abstract:
Because of the stress induced anisotropy caused by the initial anisotropic stress state, the undrained shear strength usually displays anisotropic nature. Based on the constitutive equation, the theoretical values of undrained shear strength of normally consolidated and slightly over consolidated clays can be obtained. Applying the theoretical strength results into the analysis of heave resistant stability for deep braced excavation, the factor of safety for stability can be achieved. After comprehensive parametric analysis of Shanghai soft clay, study has been done on the factor of safety and its evaluating standard. Then the method is verified by practical engineering cases. This paper provides a new analytical method for the problem of heave resistant stability for the deep braced excavation.
