Abstract: There are many large oil tanks located on soft clay strata along the coast and constructed during recent decade. Investigation and analysis of field measurement results and performance of several large tanks, also reference to construction experience in other countries, guidelines for control tank foundation stability and allowable differential settlements related to settlement types of the tank foundation were suggested. Also suggested was the value of lateral earth pressure coefficient concerning the ringwall.
