Abstract:
This paper deals with an experimental investigation on some factors influencing the uniaxial tensile strength of the cohesive compacted fill. These factors are the periodical loading, the initial density, the initial water content and the loading rate.1. It is found that there is no influence of the periodical loading on the uniaxial tensile strength, and no "fatigue limit" occurred. However, the relation between the stress and the strain is nonlinear. The characteristics of the strain are discussed.2. The water content and the dry density, have some significant effect on the uniaxial tensile strength. The tensile strength reaches its maximum value while the water content less than its optimum value.3. Different loading rate gives different uniaxial tensile strength.
