Abstract:
The shear-wave velocity variation laws of soil-stone mixtures due to alteration of water content and mass are studied. Comparative laboratory compaction tests on soil and soil-stone samples of sandy soil, silty clay and low liquid-limit clay under different water contents and soil-stone proportions are performed based on percentage of stone. The volume expansion ration (γv) is introduced. The correlation between γv and the shear-wave velocity of the soil and the correlation between γv and the shear-wave velocity of the soil-stone mixtures are analyzed. Thus, a model for the correlation between the shear-wave velocity of interval soil in crushed stone (vs2) and the macro shear-wave velocity of the soil-stone mixture (vs) under different compaction degrees of mixtures is proposed. The results show that vs2 can be derived by means of vs. This conclusion is valuable in compaction degree evaluation of soil-stone mixtures by use of the shear-wave velocity of interval soil in crushed stone.
