Abstract:
In consolidation tests, the common methods for evaluating coefficient of consolidation are Casagrande’s log t method and Taylor’s t method, both of which are graphical methods. In these two methods, there are some large influences of the man made factors during graphical construction. In this paper, the relationship of primary consolidation settlement with its velocity is developed based on the one dimensional consolidation theory, which is used to propose a new method for evaluating coefficient of consolidation. The new method does not need the test data of early and last stages, so it avoids the influence of the initial and the secondary compression, and can accelerate the course of consolidation test.
