Abstract:
In this paper, by the technique of model test, it is verified that during an earthquake the shear strength of backfill soil diminishes because of liquefaction, therefore pipelines that are buried at shallow depth and submerged in water "float" to the ground surface and lead to failure. The acceleration and excess pore water pressure response behaviors of soil foundations, the uplift mechanism of pipeline, the effectiveness of different types of drainage or reinforcement measures are studied by analogy method. The study suggested that additional research is needed and the experimental results presented are useful for validation of numerical analysis procedure.
